Bible Detective is like Where’s Waldo with intricate pictures depicting both Old Testament and New Testament scenes. Young readers are encouraged to find various people or items within each picture (as well as the little fox that appears in each scene). What I particularly liked about this book was that it educated while it entertained. For example, one of the pages challenges readers to spot Noah smearing tar on a guffa to make it watertight. The search prior to that explains that a guffa is an animal skin boat. The biblical passages that inspired each picture are named on the page and a date estimate is given. Also, short text gives context to each picture. There is even an answer key in the back with the solution to each puzzle. The puzzle pictures are completely absorbing, so it is very easy to get lost in them. I highly recommend this book for children of elementary to middle school age. It will keep them entertained for hours while giving them a better understanding of life in biblical times.
