An interesting premise with authentic teen voices, but ultimately, try as I might, I just couldn’t buy Elizabeth as a spellseeker. It was too convenient and just didn’t feel right. Also, the romantic relationship between Elizabeth and Stephen felt contrived. Nevertheless, the story flew at a quick pace, and the action became intense at the end. I won’t be reading the sequel, but I was entertained overall.
