Nicholas Sparks is one of my guilty pleasures. His books are generally romantic and sentimental and make good chick-flicks. I pick up his novels when I’m in the mood for a little comfort food. Safe Haven falls into that category, but I was a little disappointed. I knew from the beginning that the main character, Katie, was running from an abusive husband, and I also suspected that he’d find her sooner or later. The only real surprise was the identity of Jo, and that came very late in the story. Overall, I still enjoyed the book, but I had hoped it would be more moving like A Walk to Remember or The Notebook. I just didn’t connect with this one as I had hoped I would.
