Tinseland shares a similar premise with How the Grinch Stole Christmas but it’s not nearly as clever. When I read the epilogue to Tinseland, I literally groaned. It restated the extremely obvious message of the book which is basically that everyone should love everyone and have Christmas joy and peace. The more subtle message of the book is that if Santa cannot deliver the toys, there will be no Christmas. The adventure was as predictable as the outcome. I admit I was surprised when the bird at the window became an elf, but when the boy became a bird too (by just imagining); it was so cliché that I cringed. The author admits to creating this story for his children, and I have no doubt that they enjoyed it. Spending time and spinning yarns with your children is very special, and I highly recommend it. I can’t however do the same for this book. I’ll give it two stars for the sarcastic elf.
