Why I love YA

November 16, 2012 by Allie

I first discovered Young Adult books when I supervised teen volunteers at the library where I first worked as a Children’s Librarian in Florida. The teens were always recommending books to me, and most of the time I really enjoyed the read. Later, when my children reached their teens, I began recommending books to them. I remember when my daughter and I both read Twilight at the same time. We were able to share the joy of the books and see all the movies together. It was awesome! Since then we’ve read the Mortal Instruments series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls, The Hunger Games (my teenaged son even read those), and many more. I’m currently reading the Beautiful Creatures series and looking forward to seeing the movie with my daughter in February. I think Young Adult books are so popular because they have to pack more action, more romance, and more intrigue into their plots to keep teens interested. They have to compete with television, video games and computers for YA time. As a rule, I enjoy YA books more than I do adult ones. Keep those YA books coming! If you also like YA books, check out the giveaway from Beth Revis, a fellow blogger (click graphic to the left). She is very generously giving away 50 signed YA books to one lucky winner! You never know, it could be you.
