Book Review: Tiger’s Curse Saga by Colleen Houck

As it was they were still worthy of four stars overall. The mere fact that I read the entire series through in its entirety says a great deal. Only rarely do I do that. I tend to get the gist of a book series and move on because I always have so many books shouting for my attention. In the case of Tiger’s Curse, I ignored the shouts and kept reading. In one case (book two), I read through the night and didn’t even realize it until I saw the sun creeping over the horizon.

The Tiger’s Curse series is the story of a girl who loves two tigers who are princes suffering under an ancient curse. Ultimately, she is the key to breaking that curse. Along the way, there is romance, teen drama, travels to exotic places, and dangerous missions involving Indian religion, ancient prophecies, animals, dragons, zombies, and even vampires. In the end, there is even a mighty battle.

I was enveloped by the story almost from the beginning and would probably have given five stars to these books if it were not for the errors and occasional cheesiness of the writing that slipped by the editors in an effort, it would seem, to rush these books to the presses. The first book had the most errors and if not for the gripping story, would have lost me as a result. Here’s an example: “Things just kept getting stranger and stranger the deeper I get into this adventure” (p. 273). I encourage readers not to be discouraged in their reading by such errors. Let the story carry you away even if the writing is sometimes not as good as it could be. The imagination and research that went into these novels cannot be denied, and I highly recommend it to fans of romantic fantasy.
