My favorite find of the season: Red Sled by Lita Judge

November 22, 2011 by Allie

Red Sled is a picture book in the truest sense in that the story is told in pictures with very few words. The illustrations are fun, exciting, moving, and flat out joyful! I don't have young children anymore, but I bought this book anyway. I look forward to sharing it with my future grandchildren. But, mostly, I had to have it for the child in me! … [Read more...] about My favorite find of the season: Red Sled by Lita Judge

Book Review: The Three Trees by Elena Pasquali

November 7, 2011 by Allie

What are most outstanding about this rendition of The Three Trees are the beautiful illustrations. The colors are vibrant and the images are action packed with emotive animals everywhere. I also like the telling of the story in that the sentence structure was simple, perfect for a young child to read. I happen to own Angela Hunt's retelling of the same story, so I compared it … [Read more...] about Book Review: The Three Trees by Elena Pasquali

Book Review: Sundial by C.F. Fruzzetti & M.I. Pearsall

October 30, 2011 by Allie

Sundial by C.F. Fruzzetti My rating: 3 of 5 stars Sundial takes the reader back to the early eighties and the last vestiges of the Cold War, but it begins as a romance between two uniquely gifted and specially skilled teenagers. The book begins rather slowly. The reader is given clues that something major is going to happen and that these two teenagers, Reid and Whitney, will … [Read more...] about Book Review: Sundial by C.F. Fruzzetti & M.I. Pearsall

Book Review: Refuge on Crescent Hill by Melanie Dobson

October 24, 2011 by Allie

Refuge on Crescent Hill: A Novel by Melanie Dobson My rating: 3 of 5 stars Refuge on Crescent Hill was a cozy mystery with light romance. Although it touched on the serious topic of domestic abuse, it didn't dwell on the dark side of that issue. It offered hope instead. Overall, I liked the book. It wasn't too preachy, the characters were more or less realistic, and the story … [Read more...] about Book Review: Refuge on Crescent Hill by Melanie Dobson

Book Review: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

October 17, 2011 by Allie

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern My rating: 5 of 5 stars The Night Circus is perhaps the best book I've read in a very long time; it is certainly the most imaginative. The plot is deceptively simple. Two aging magicians train young proteges to compete against one another at the circus. But this is no ordinary magic. These are no ordinary students. And this is definitely … [Read more...] about Book Review: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
